Now that we've collectively lived through The Day Will Come When You Won't Be, there's a lot of uproar about viewers walking away from TWD. Some are angry at the loss of their fave. Some are angry at the violence itself and believe the show crossed a moral line. Some say all that's left for TWD is torture porn, misery porn, and empty nihilism. Some still feel manipulated by the CH and the aftermath. (Strangely enough meanwhile, the show will at least tie its all-time highest ratings record with this episode.)

Over at The Verge, they formed a Quitters' Club and collectively decided they're done with the show because of 701, after writing several articles waffling inbetween leading up to last Sunday. I've seen similar sentiments peppered across the internet, even in reviews. A good friend of mine wants to quit the show because she feels it's "upping the gore factor just to be edgy" and can't handle it getting worse.

Do you know anyone who's planning on quitting the show after this episode? Do you have any thoughts on the lines being drawn in the sand as of 701? Do you believe anyone will stick with their resolution and actually abandon the show, or will they be drawn back in again?

I can definitely understand why some may want to quit even though I may agree or disagree on some points. I don't know anyone personally that is deciding to quit, but I have seen this sentiment expressed online particularly by fans of the deceased, and I can understand that.

That said, I don't think I'll be going anywhere anytime soon.

I also understand if people decide to drop the show. I stopped watching Penny Dreadful because they killed a character I liked and felt was treated poorly. I quit GoT after season 3 because of the nihilism, though I started watching again a little last season. People have to do what's best for them. If enough viewers stop watching, enough to affect ratings, maybe that'll wake up TPTB over at AMC and the show and they stop with the stunts. If they'd done this at the end of last season, instead of the cliffhanger, people would have had the time to grieve and cool down and come back ready for the new season. Now, they've just pissed people off. :|

It's a hard show to leave. It's got such fantastic characters and potential, but seems so rarely to live up to it. Gimple can often set things up fantastically, but fails to follow through, so you get roped in by the shiny, new goodness only for it to end up sucking or being kind of mediocre, or just the same shit, different verse. The tricks and gimmicks the last few years have gotten draining. 701 might've been the straw that broke the camel's back for some - or the big stupid baseball bat. And while it is a show with gore and zombies, 701's deaths and the torture porn were gratuitous by the show's standards. There's not usually THAT much suffering packed into one episode.

I personally don't see myself watching the show, at least not regularly, again. I'll poke around this site because the company is great and I still have vested interest in many of the characters (and where else can I use this emoji :dale4:). The loss of Glenn is too much for me to bear though, so sitting through an episode knowing he's gone? I just don't see myself able to do it. It's possible in time, I'll get to a place where I'm better and can sit through the suffering this show so often puts me through, but right now there's no joy in it for me.

Not even 712 has me excited anymore. That's how far I've fallen. Someone could hand me a finished copy with all the takes and I just would not care. I'd like to get back to a place where I can feel something for my OTP, but I just don't.

While I thought 7x01 was too much my sorry ass is here as long as Andy is. :ogg: I do believe my best friend may be done though. Glenn's her fave and it's hit her really hard. I've been spending the past couple of days letting her emotionally vent at me. She hasn't specifically mentioned that she's not watching anymore but it wouldn't surprise me to get a text saying she's done. I've also seen many people on tumblr say they're done. I completely understand it, when Rick's gone I'm gone so I'm never going to judge someone for bowing out if their fave dies. I think some may be gone for good and others may just need a break. Honestly, 7x01 made me feel differently about the show and the amount of love I had for it just isn't the same anymore.

Well I stopped watching OUAT when Baelfire was killed, he did not need to be killed in order for CaptainSwan to happen, anyways sorry little rant. I understand if they stop watching, Glenn was definitely a favorite it was just brutal that whole episode. As for me I'm still in because of Andy and Danai if they both leave, i'm out too.

My boyfriend is one of those people that have decided to quit. And let me tell you, he's so set on quitting that he hid in the bedroom while I watched 7.01, he's stubborn like that. As soon as he heard the spoilers he made a vow to not watch and I'd be utterly shocked if he changed his mind. I don't blame him. He's been a fan of Glenn's since season one so it comes as no surprise.

I've "quit" the show before, I didn't watch any of season three while it aired, but eventually got super bored and decided to catch up when S4 was back on. I guess it was a hiatus, not really quitting. My sister also quit the show, back during season four, and once in a blue moon tunes in to see a major moment and usually wishes she hadn't.

It won't surprise me if the ratings do start dipping down. The premiere had great numbers, and I'm sure AMC is patting themselves on the back for that cliffhanger, but a lot of people seemed pretty fed up (for a variety of reasons) so I'll be shocked if 7.02 brings the same massive numbers.

I wish I had a magic line in the sand for when to stop watching. I'm still not sure if I'm going to be watching every episode. The premiere really pushed me over an edge, and I'm not sure there's any coming back from it, at least for a while. Perhaps I'll take another hiatus. It felt...cheap. It's a mixture of a lot of things but how I'm feeling is much how I felt during my last "break". Characters died that I didn't want to see go (last time Shane, this time Glenn), the upcoming episodes are full of communities I don't care about (last time Woodbury, this time...all of them except ASZ), and I hate the "big bad" (although I hate Negan way more than I hated the Gov). Also, Rick is once again weak and defeated. I'm tired. If Andy weren't in the show, I would most definitely throw in the towel.

I will say it's harder for people that are into "fandom" to quit the show. You wanna keep up with the fans, discuss, dissect, and the only way to do that is to...watch the show.

I know some people who have decided to quit the show and I believe them. I'm in the mental health profession so we are pretty serious about protecting our emotional well-being.

I'm not going to quit this season but honestly if things don't change after this season then I may stop. I checked out of fandom this summer after the cliffhanger because it just felt manipulative, gimmicky and unnecessary. I don't read the graphic novels, I tried but I don't find them interesting. I'm more a character driven person than a plot driven person so the comics don't appeal to me. I started the show in season 1 and I wasn't a big horror fan but I was really attracted to the realism and the character focus. Fell in love with the cast and stuck around through each reboot by a different showrunner. The show changed once again on Sunday. Yes I understand that they have a lot of crazy stuff that happens but its not as graphic and it doesn't happen to people we have gotten to care for over 7 years. Zombies are a fantasy but people graphically bludgeoning someone to death happens in real life so people will be affected differently.

Also I'm fucking irritated at the double standard, that AMC felt it was okay to show me that shit but cant give me an interracial love scene between Rick and Michonne. I guess that's too graphic and uncomfortable for people but the season opener was cool?

My dad and sister both had to step away from the show a few times on Sunday. They found it incredibly difficult to watch, but they both also said that their need to see Team Family rise up and conquer again outweighed the parts of them that wanted to stop watching so .. I guess we'll see, but I totally understand where some people are coming from.

Ah....this topic is soooo painful for me to discuss because it means that my favorite show, and the ONLY show I am so heavily invested in, is on the cusp of taking a turn down a path of decreased ratings, viewer devotion and fandom mutiny.

And it's been building for awhile.

While I personally don't know of anyone who is quitting, the GA viewers in my life were nauseated, horrified and shocked by the premiere and not ONE of them told me that it was a kickass episode that made them count down the days till episode 2.

I hope that Gimple and company got their act together for the rest of the season and we get a little bit of that magic back as we are long overdue. I'm too invested in Rick, Michonne and the kids to turn my back but I absolutely wouldn't blame any viewer for giving up the show at this point. Or at least live viewing.

We'll see what the ratings are for next week and the week after. If they dip below last season's, it's going to be a much needed wake up call for the writers that season 8 better knock it out of the park or this show's run will be cut short.

Realistically this is a show in it's 7th season. Even if it was knocking it out if the park it is the nature of shows to fall off as they age. Nature of the beast. I don't blame people if this is not how they want to be entertained though. That's fair.

Glenn was on of my favs so I am upset that he is gone and I don't like how is character was treated in the last two seasons - so much was wasted for gimmicks. I couldn't finish 7x01. I've decided not to watch the rest of the season until the mid season final.
I'm not interested right now about having a bunch of new characters shoved on screen and there are some existing characters that I could care less about (I think it's the writing and pacing of the shows fault) Anyway, Michonne would be the last straw for me, when she's off the show then I am done. But I can't watch this show one episode a week like I did before season 5. I can't stand bottle episodes with characters and story lines that don't interest me. So I'll wait until there are a bulk of the season is out so I can skip over the stuff that doesn't interest me.

I can see how people are upset by Glenn, but I guess, having been a GN fan, you come to expect
the violence and it is only going to get worse if you think Negan is bad, he's nothing compared to
Alpha and that's the thing because I know people who read the GN also watch the show so they
shouldn't be surprised, so with that logic it tell's me people who don't read it, are shocked which
    is understandable.

It is much worse in the comic's we all know that Michonne at the hand's of the Gov was at times
unreadable, u really had to go slow and have a stiff drink. I think that Gimple been a comic fan
and trying to keep it close to the comics was always going to do that to Glenn, I have a feeling that
when we had that dumpster thing with Glenn, it was a warning that his time was coming to an end.

So I guess the problem is that some people who are dead in the comic's but alive on the show
makes it harder to guess who is going to be next. One thing I am glad he did was give that
theme that Carl is not afraid of Negan, and Negan in the becomes a little bit freaked out by
the fact that Carl has no fear. I think if your favourite dies what is the point of continuing
on because I know if or when Rick dies, I may tune out, but I also love Carl and Michonne
so probably would watch to see them, but I kinda think when Rick goes, Michonne will not
be too far behind. Then we get to see how their Kid continues on without them, I wouldn't
be surprised if at some stage we get a huge time jump and go straight to an older Carl.

Back in the day, way before spoilers and fandom for me, I always swore I'd quit this show if they killed off TV Andrea, I loved her THAT much - obviously I'm still here. To this day, her death is at least top 5 hardest things for me to watch, and I truly get emotional just thinking about it, I'm still so attached. After her death and my love of Michandrea I told myself if Michonne ever died, that'd really be the end for me, and I don't even think that's true anymore. The only move that would have me quit for good, spit on the memory of this show, rage on the interwebs for possibly years to come is if Michonne/Rick died for Daryl and/or Daryl took over as the series lead. Goodbye and goodnight, but as much as I love Glenn and as strange as the premiere made me feel, and even as disappointed in Negans portrayal as I am, I'm in it for the long haul.

This show has jerked me back and forth since the beginning, and I do feel differently about it now, don't look as forward to it, rarely watch live, but I'm invested and I want to see how it ends. I have no problem quitting shows I used to adore, did it with sleepy hollow, the 100, penny dreadful etc, but the last reason I'd quit TWD is due to gore in a zombie apocalypse. I'm sorry but I don't understand this argument, did people think this was a feel good family show? Maybe that's a result of the show focusing so much on interpersonal relationships and that fuckery with Jessie, it was truly a soap opera in Alexandria. But even then, it's the end of the world, people have been dying horribly for 6 solid seasons, I get Glenn was a favourite, but I'm really confused at this "moral" outrage.

As far as people quitting due to the cheap antics, choppy dialogue, poor pacing, personal arcs no one cares about, etc that I can understand more. I watch the first seasons, and even the prison arc compared to where we are now, the quality is different. The production value is spectacular now, the accompanying music is well picked and well done, there are some truly beautiful and painful moments, but something is very different in a negative way and I've been trying to put my finger on it. Might be the hopelessness, the division of attention and pandering to certain characters, how others characterization suffers so unnecessary characters can have another emo arc... I can understand people just getting fed up with the bullshit. I feel like we've been putting up with it consistently since Grady so I'm not sure why people are more pissed now. I think a lot of it is just the shock of the episode, it was emotionally exhausting to watch, and Negan carrying on was very irritating, but I think plenty of people will continue to watch and will watch till the bitter end. I don't know anyone personally who's done for good, but a few are extremely upset and disgusted.

My only real fear because I know how likely it is, is Daryl somehow becoming the victim to TF because he blames himself for Glenn, and Maggie's pain and suffering and her right to being extremely angry and broken being side swept for Daryl. Depending on how that manifests, I can easily see myself taking a break, and just marathoning one rainy weekend or something. I don't know how much I can stomach with that. /novel

I can't quit. I still have other favorites still on the show. The over the top violence of 7x1 was just the dropped in bucket of my displeasure with TWD. I don't understand how they didn't give Steven more focus. We'll never have another opportunity to have a character focus episode for Glenn. Steven was a great actor, why didn't they write him material that garnish media or award attention before he was fired. I definite not invested in watching live. So it DVR watching for me. Episode 3 is definite a no. I might not even DVR watch. I have no interest in Negan, saviors, Dwight, Shelley, or even Daryl.

I understand fully why some may want to quit or have quit. I do not blame anyone for disengaging from a show they no longer enjoy (for whatever the reason).

Having said that, I'm here until Rick is gone. I always have some hope things will get better.

Well my sister and my daughter have thrown in the towel at this point, and they both were the 2 people that I loved discussing the show with. But i'm hanging on by a thread so far and it's mainly due to Richonne, when it used to be a well rounded show for me. So for me I need to see some significant things happening for Richonne such as a hug, ILY'S, and meaningful discussions, (ex. the Andre talk) or this season may be it for me. I wish I could find other reasons to keep watching but my interest level is way down.
