What do you all think? Lots of places are talking about this. I thought it was suspicious this huge morse code board but now some are saying the Daryl was communicating with Rick. The only reason I would believe this is because I don't believe that TPTB would not let NR talk for an entire episode.

If Sanctuary was six miles away from ASZ they would have discovered it by now. Also when Carol encountered the Saviours didn't they guy say he thought she came from that place 12 miles down the road. Someone is really reaching with the morse code.

I don't think there was any Morse code either. I did notice the huge board in the sneak peek so it may mean something later in this or future seasons.

No morse code. People just want Daryl to be the hero. "Seeeee! He's speaking morse code to Rick! Our redneck is smart! He's gonna get us out of this mess."

I don't think it was Daryl using Morse either. We know he's been locked in a dark cell for days so it's reasonable that his eyes would be adjusting to sunlight. Frequent blinking is also a sign of nerves, and I imagine Daryl's still living in the Guilt Zone and doesn't feel cool about having a long gaze sesh with Rick after what happened because he's still vulnerable. Plus, I have no reason to believe that Daryl knows where the Sanctuary is yet, since they carted him off in the back of a van and probably transported him in a similar fashion, closed off where he can't see and get his bearings that well.

I'm sure the sign will come back in somehow because it's too obvious, but not here, not yet anyway.

    BINGO!!!!

This is exactly why I think they are using code.

Anything now that has to do with NR is illogical and ill placed, because they keep wedging him in places that he doesn't fit. Normally Gimple like to spread his clues and easter eggs over several episodes or even several seasons. So this is a rush job, suddenly we see the Morse Code board (Is it a clue???) then Daryl shows up blinking madly.

Do I like this turn of events NO. It's just cheap fan service. Actually it looks like NR wasn't even suppose to be there, he had no lines... but NR now gets what NR wants.

I don't either. I was surprised when this caught on, it's all over fb. I've seen about five different translations of what Daryl is supposed to be saying but to me it looked like he was just trying not to cry:sadmaggie: I do think the Morse code is an Easter egg for something later on in the series though.

I would not be okay with them suddenly revealing, out of nowhere, that Rick and Daryl both know morse code and communicate with it. Also, by the time Rick realized Daryl was blinking morse code (that sounds crazy even as I type it), he would've lost half the message.

My first thought is hell no. But this show does have a habit of doing things I would not expect. :sadmaggie:

I've been trying to think what information he could possibly be relaying to Rick. Because "Help", "I'm fine", "Get me out of here" seems redundant given his current state. The only way he could know the distance is if he counted down the time when they were transporting him and estimated the distance from there. That's the only information I could see him gaining, and it being potentially useful. Doesn't explain the ridiculousness of him knowing Morse Code, though. :denise:

    People....people....

Here is 'Six miles from Hilltop in Morse code:

    ... .. -..- / -- .. .-.. . ... / ..-. .-. --- -- / .... .. .-.. .-.. - --- .--.

Does Rick suddenly have a savant like memory where he can internalize those eyelid flutters into English once he gets a pad of paper and a pencil? Or are we supposed to believe he just translated it all on the fly?

    Me thinks not.

I see no sense of understanding or realization on Rick's face while Daryl is blinking. So is Rick going to wake up in the middle of the night all "Eureka! It was Morse Code! Daryl was trying to tell me something!" then run down the stairs and suddenly remember all those dots and dashes that @MamaGrimes just transcribed? Or maybe 7x05 opens with him deep in thought over his coffee and Gimple's been rewatching Sherlock so Rick now has a mind palace. [IMG]

Talk about reaching to make Daryl relevant in this episode. Seriously with all that hair in his face how in the world did anyone see any blinking at all. And when exactly did he learn Morse Code, which would also beg the question of when did Rick learn it.

I am not disagreeing but there was absolutely NO REASON for Daryl to be there. Negan could have threaten Rick with anyone who was at ASZ like he did with Olivia. I feels like NR just wanted to be there and they made an excuse on the fly.
