I read this earlier and I laughed. A lot. I still think Noah's death has been the most graphic, and I can't imagine anything in 6x09 is going to be worse than that.

Exactly. I watched it just Wednesday with a friend on her first viewing and it still made me look away because it's so in-your-face terrible and disgusting. Unless the writer means Sam being torn apart, which I highly doubt, it has to be Jessie who is the final straw? Come on.

Unless it's Ron getting impaled and then consumed by walkers which I don't imagine will be that graphic, unless this guy is just bothered because Ron's a teenager.

I don't know when I read that I immediately thought of Sam.

I would have no objection toward anyone really finding fault with the show over gratuitous child deaths. It does honestly have too many. The comic has nowhere near as many, nor are they typically as bad or as heart-wrenching in their circumstances either. But I dunno, I guess I'm just jaded from the past few months, but it doesn't sit right to me that this is the time where it's suddenly too much, when you had Noah, Beth, Lizzie, and Mika not that long ago in pretty horrific circumstances too.

Oh, also related: Gimple last night on Actors Studio made a point of saying that he goes out of his way to make sure the violence, gore, and deaths are never gratuitous. I'm inclined to agree with him there, even if I'm angry that so-and-so died (like oh idk tyreese).

I suppose it could just be a case of opinion if this guy is really bothered since this is what the recap said:

Yes, and follow that up with this line from the review in question...
I really think it's the chop he zeroed in on.

I agree as well, I think Noah's death has really been the only time I was a little bit like "Ehhhh why!" I suppose it could also be a case that 3 characters are dying in such a quick time frame and that really bugged him.

.........I really have nothing to say if an arm chop bothered him enough that he thinks it was done only to be violent and disturbing. Especially considering WHY it was done; a man saving his child.

From the excerpt @Clutterbuck posted, the reviewer seems to mention that the chop is quick. How they can then go and refer to that as "misery porn" or the show "crossing a line" is beyond me. Who knows maybe they are just a delicate flower.

I can't be bothered by people bothered about the chop. People who are upset by it and I just will never see on the same level as that's such a fundamental difference of personal philosophy on life, the universe, and everything.

His argument is based on the idea that it does nothing for the story, those deaths -
but we know Sam's death will probably propel Carol, and Ron's death will maim Carl and probably propel Michonne in some way too, so who does that leave? It's either Jessie, or he doesn't understand causality, lol.

Or who knows? Maybe he was the last die-hard Alpha Wolf stan.

LOL he should really consider quitting the show then. What did Jacqui's death mean for the story (she died so Jenner could hold someone's hand)? What did T-Dogg's death mean? Merle? Noah? Beth? Seriously Jessie's death is one of the few that actually serves a purpose to Rick's characterization.

That's a ridiculous argument to make since he likely has no idea what's going to happen after 6x09. He can't see the future and say those deaths do nothing for the story. They make the story better lbr :D

And like @WalkerVoodoo said people die all the time in this show, IT'S THE APOCALYPSE every death is not done for some huge story-propelling reason. Yeah I'm leaning towards this dude being a delicate flower or he's just looking for a reason to bitch.

When I first read that review I legit thought I'd missed some major spoiler and a major character death based off this dude's reactions. But then I realized (DUH TO ME) he was referring to the Andersons. And I laughed and laughed.

When I read the i09 review I thought he is indeed way to salty for this episode so I went back and looked at some of his other articles. He seems to write in a constant state of saltiness and I read his recap for Start to Finish. I think he is not upset about the chop, he is upset about the death of Sam. In the Start to Finish recap, he spoke of it being one of his favorite cold openings with Sam. He wrote about understanding poor Sam's plight, murder fathered, watched his mom kill a wolf and that he is totally unable to handle living in this new world. He was amazed that they even thought such a traumatized kid could make it out of the front door when he couldn't leave his own bedroom. I think the whole Sam situation is what he finds gratuitous and makes no logical sense.

Edit: adding the link to the recap I mentioned above. http://io9.gizmodo.com/the-walking-dead-just-reminded-everyone-why-its-the-1-1745242696

Noah' s death was utterly horrific. Maybe it was because I liked the character so much, but I found it really, really hard to watch. From some of the other reviews of 6x09 we've read, I cannot imagine this would somehow be worse. Dude must either have a short memory or really like J-blah and her kids.

Thanks for doing some digging. I actually kind of like Sam. Or maybe I just feel really sorry for him because his parents screwed up his whole life. I could understand how his death could be upsetting. I wonder why he says it requires these otherwise intelligent survivors to act like idiots. Is it because Rick didn't force him to go with Father G to the church?
Whatever it is, I don't like anyone calling Rick and Michonne idiots. STFU.

I think he is calling taking Sam out in the middle of the herd the idiotic move. Once again it's really about Jessis, she should know her own kid. The fact that he can't even leave his bedroom, she told him to pretend to be brave should have screamed to her Sam can't do this. I don't blame the other adults because they don't know Sam at all or the fact he has been in his room for days.
